EMS - Accelerate expertise on your EMS team

The Virtual Patient Interactive Trainer (VPIT) for EMS is currently under development! The VPIT provides dynamic simulation training for emergency response teams. Using a virtual patient, the VPIT provides life-like changes in breathing, skin pallor, facial expressions, sweat and more for the most effective training. Because training is normally conducted in small, cross functional teams of 4-5, the VPIT allows all members of the group to follow in real time through their own mixed reality viewing device. Each member of the team uses their own Microsoft Hololens to stay engaged and immersed throughout every scenario (Individual views that support the specific needs of various team members are currently under development). Providing both internal and external views of the patient, the VPIT allows the students to make important connections between anatomy and physiology.

Required Equipment

We will work with you to custom design an equipment configuration that meets your specific needs. We purchase the devices on your behalf with zero markup and install the software on each device prior to delivery. A Typical configuration would be to purchase one (1) instructor tablet and five (5) Microsoft Hololens mixed reality viewing devices. The teaching tablet can control up to X mixed reality viewers at one time, so we can meet your training needs.

Stand-alone or Not?

The VPIT can provide additional realism to existing manikins or part-task trainers using a fiducial marker anchoring system to place the virtual patient. It can also be in full stand-alone mode with no physical simulation paraphernalia required.

Tracking and Reporting

Both versions of the VPIT support gaze tracking and scenario reporting data. As the student progresses through the scenario, data is continuously captured to reflect where on the virtual patient the student was looking. Data is automatically stored in each student’s record to easily review where improvements can be made. Implementation of physical interventions is also automatically stored for quick review of each student’s skill set. This time-stamped record allows for more effective after action reviews to reinforce positive decisions and actions taken by the student, as well as to identify opportunity areas.
